Around the World
We wanted to depart on the Round-the-World
trip with our Dyane in 2001. Or possibly
in 2002. We're still going, but we'll postpone
it til 2007 or 2008, as we have two small kids now and they need to grow up a little bit.

This was just a crazy idea in the beginning.
But now, it's serious. Of course, the trip
will be done with the Dyane. There are no
real economy-related reasons for it; the
airfares for a Round-The-World trip start
at around 1.500 USD, and we cannot beat this
price with a car (all the fuel, the airfares
for the parts that cannot be done with a
car, like crossing oceans, etc.). But I feel
that after many great years of ducking, it
would be the only proper way. I don't have
a problem with leaving my job for one year.
In fact, I will do it gladly.
This is the route:
- Ship the Dyane to the USA and drive from
east to west coast. Large portions will be
driven through Canada, because we've never
been there (despite visiting the USA seven
times). We will also visit Alaska and all
the gorgeous US National Parks west of the
Rockies.
-
Then we will ship the car to New Zealand, and in the meantime visit some Pacific islands (Hawaii, Tahiti, Easter Island, Galapagos, ...)
-
Then we're going to tour New Zealand and ship the car to Australia
-
We haven't decided which way to go accross Australia yet, but I'm sure we'll think of something
-
Then the car will be shipped to Malaysia. We'll tour Malaysia and Thailand and also visit Singapore. We might also fly to Indonesia, but without car. Apparently, it's not easy to get it into this country.
-
Then we'll ship the Dyane to Calcutta and drive accross India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece and Italy to Slovenia. A side trip from India to Nepal could be a very attractive option.
Dear travellers, any ideas regarding the route will be highly appreciated! Places not to be missed? Places to avoid? Any Citroen/2CV owners along the way to be visited? Thanks in advance for all suggestions!
