Welcome to webpage of folklore group of cultural society Ponikva by Žalec! On our webpage you can see short presentation of our group. We described all dances that we dance and traditional costumes that we wear. You can also view photo and video gallery. The folklore group (FG) is operating under patronage of cultural society Ponikva by Žalec, as part of witch are also male choir and drama section. The founder of FG was Nada Jelen, who was the president of cultural society at that time, and she filles Majda Kričej with ethusiasm to carry on her work and lead the group. The first steps and practices were made in year 1996 and the FG was registrated in year 2000.
Essential purpose of the FG is to revive and recreate folklore traditions and customs, and also pass the knowledge on younger generations. Miss Majda took several classes including choreography. First steps of the FG were hard, especially with gathering resources for traditional costumes. The group of 30 dancers can fully perform 5 dances lead by group leader Majda Kričej and President Milan cokan.
The FG is performing on
several occasions in the region, county,
international performances and TV shows. They also perform on weddings and
others special occasions. Members of the group like to play harmonica.
Music and singing go hand in hand in folk tradition. Harmonica took over other traditional musical instruments before World War I. In our group we try to revive these musical instruments by playing them on performances and shows. Foto
Miss Majda Kričej is also a leader of children FG, they perform several Traditional dances the way how their
ancestors did when they were young. The message of the children FG is that dance
is good for your body and soul. They also perform traditional children dances
(an ban pet podgan, ti loviš, Abraham...)
