Kocna

Kocna is a big and wide mountain which looks like a castle. It's not so easy to get to the top. Only a couple of trails lead up there. There are two distinct peaks: one is on the left of the picture and the other is that tiny spike on the right side. You can begin your hike either on north side (Ledine) or the south (Kokra). Both trails eventually come close together on the pass between Kocna and Grintovec. The pass is a fairly scenic place as it connects the two giant peaks. From there, you approach the mountain from the east. No trails exist across the west face, it's all vertical there. Plan on 5 to 6 hours to climb Kocna, whichever path you take. That's one way time, of course. Remember, no easy trails exist here. They all have their tricky spots. For example, if you go from the pass on the east, there's a spot where you will have to take your backpack off and crawl through a narrow passage. And just next to you there's a nasty vertical dropoff. Careful up there. Many people decide to just leave their backpacks here and collect them when they return from the summit, which is less than 30 minutes away.

The picture was taken from Grintovec and displays the southeast face of Kocna.
