Summer of '97! The 12th world meeting of
2CV friends is held in the Netherlands! The
land of windmills, cheese, cows! Frankly,
most 2CV drivers are probably more motivated
in seeing and sampling the sins of Amsterdam...
On the day of departure, I still had to work
for a few hours. Then we had lunch with Brigita
and being silly as only I can be, I left
my bag with the camcorder in the restaurant.
Luckily, I remembered after 10 minutes, we
rushed back and the staff gave me the bag.
It would be a completely different story
if I though about the bag only after reaching
the Netherlands...
The first stop was the Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria. We never took the Grossglockner Strasse before, although it's not that far from our home.
The view of the Grossglockner, the highest
peak in Austria, is really impressive. It's
easy to drive up there, even for the 2-cylinder-engined
Dyane. But the large multi-level parking
lot amidst the gorgeous Alpine setting at
the end of the road does look a bit weird...
Comfortable paved road leads even higher,
up to 2.600m at the Edelweiss Spitze. And
then we descend down to Zell am See and drive
on to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany.
If I remember correctly, this windmill is
situated not far from Rotterdam, close to
Kinderdijk. This one was among the oldest
we found, but it probably could use some
repair job.
After the meet, we headed for Belgium and
on into France. We stopped in Paris where
we spent a few days, roaming the city streets
and looking for the sights. Eurodisney was
one of them as well...
No pictures from France posted here yet,
sorry; but they will follow someday.
After Paris, we were slowly making our way
to Strasbourg and then crossed the German
border. There was a birthday party coming
up at our friends' place in Pliezhausen!
We visited them, just briefly. Or so we thought...
A considerable time later, we headed home.
It was a long drive, nine hours, and everybody
was convincing us to stay for the night,
but since we just moved into our new house
a month earlier, it was sooo tempting to
go back home!
